The other day I got this email:
"Dear Tally and Julie,
You don't know me, but I teach art in Middle School, Lawndale, Ca. I purchased your book because it looked intriguing and I'm an assemblage artist and thought it looked like a great project. Since I'm also an art teacher I decided to try the project with one class of my students, a mixed 7th and 8th grade class. I decided that "Alice in Wonderland" would be perfect because it had just come out and all my students were familiar with it. Plus, it has a great number of characters so each person in the class would have a character of some kind. I assigned each student a room and a character/characters, and they had to use vintage faces/people as the character/part of the character. We looked at Victorian furnishings, people, fashion, etc. in order to prepare and get ideas. In short, they produced a class house sort of like the ones in your book (except a "kid/Middle School" version). I thought you might find it interesting to see their finished piece and also to see where your inspiration spreads. I consider this one of the best projects ever done in my class!
We are proud of the project which my Principal intends to have on display next year under glass somewhere on campus. Thank you for the book inspiration, I hope I will get to do this project again sometime either with friends, or another class of students. And--let me know what you think of it, I'd love that....

And here are the photos of the students' unbelievable work. Most of this stuff is better than anything I could have done! I have to say, it makes me all kinds of proud.
Enjoy!

HERE is a link to the book in case you want to try it yourself.
